• Often referred to as “Stairways to Heaven” the Banaue Rice Terraces are 2000-year old terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the indigenous people.
• Also located in Banaue and a popular rice terrace are the Batad Rice Terraces for its preserved beauty that they say was much like what Banaue was in its heyday. It is well-known for the terraces form like an impressive amphitheater.
• Collectively, these rice terraces are considered by Filipinos as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. The Banaue Rice Terraces has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A visit to the Banaue and Batad Rice Terraces is a journey through 2000-6000 years of Philippine History as told through the mountain carvings and magnificent worksmanship of the Ifugao ancestors.
